About us
Meet Mrs. Chitwood
Welcome to 5th grade!! I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to teach your 5th grader Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies this year! I look forward to meeting these new faces, and kicking off an amazing year at McGowen!
Career Background:
This is my third year teaching at McGowen Elementary. This will be my seventh year teaching and third year teaching 5th grade Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies. My career background focus is primarily in Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies, which reveals my true passion for Literature.
Family Life and Background:
I was born in Durant, Oklahoma and moved to McKinney, Texas when I was in 5th grade. I was raised in McKinney and graduated from McKinney High School in 2006. I was a member of the MHS Golf Team, MHS Cheerleading Squad and MHS Student Council. My senior year I was “Lea the Lion” and loved every minute of it. After graduating I attended college at the University of Oklahoma and received my degree in Elementary Education. My continued education was at Southeastern Oklahoma State University where I received my minor in Special Education. In 2007 I met my husband, Tanner. We married in 2013 and have a two year old son named Camden!
Hobbies & Fun Stuff:
My family and I enjoy playing golf, movies and BASEBALL! We love sports and going to games! I especially enjoy watching my classroom kiddos games/extra curricular activities and seeing them in a different environment. So make sure to send me a schedule of games and competitions!
My Beliefs:
I am a teacher who is passionate about what I do in the classroom. Not only is it my goal to teach students the importance of learning curriculum but also life lessons and daily life skills. Reading and Language Arts is truly where my heart lies and I hope to instill the love of reading into each and every student that steps into my classroom. I like to have fun but at the same time our classroom is very structured and I have high expectations for my students. Our classroom is a family and I believe that, “in order to reach a child’s head you have to reach their hear first!”
If there is anything that you ever need or have concerns about please come to me and we can address your concerns immediately. I will do the same. I look forward to getting to know you all and a great school year!
